Bradley and the Environment

Bradley Green Mission Statement

Bradley is committed to the continuous improvement of our environmental management system and performance including resource conservation and pollution prevention.

At Bradley, we are committed to continuous improvement and customer satisfaction. As a responsible corporate citizen, manufacturing premium-quality commercial washroom fixtures, we're committed to responsibly using all resources as well as safeguarding the communities and environments in which we operate.

We are a member of the USGBC and have implemented many internal procedures to reduce waste and conserve resources in our manufacturing processes as well as continue to introduce products that support LEED credits.

What is LEED?

Developed by the USGBC, the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Green Building Rating System is a voluntary, consensus-based national standard for designing, constructing and operating high-performance, sustainable buildings. LEED was created to:

  • Define 'green building' by establishing a common standard of measurement
  • Promote integrated, whole-building design practices
  • Recognize environmental leadership in the building industry
  • Stimulate green competition
  • Raise consumer awareness of green building benefits
  • Transform the building market

LEED provides a complete framework for assessing building performance and meeting sustainability goals. Based on well-founded scientific standards, LEED emphasizes state-of-the-art strategies for sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor air quality.

How Does LEED work?

LEED recognizes achievements and promotes expertise in green building through a comprehensive, point-based system.  Using the system, building owners can measure their success in environmental stewardship.  USGBC has developed several "products" - LEED-NC (New Construction), LEED-EB (Existing Building), LEED-CI (Commercial Interiors) and LEED for Schools.  For LEED-NC there are 69 possible points to earn in 5 main categories:

  • Sustainable Sites
  • Water Efficiency
  • Energy & Atmosphere
  • Materials & Resources
  • Indoor Environmental Quality
14 points
5 points
17 points
13 points
15 points

Additional points can be earned for Design & Innovation (4 points) and Accredited Professional (1 point).

Buildings can earn the following certifications:

Certified

26-32 points

Silver

33-38 points

Gold

39-51 points

Platinum

52-69 points

What products are LEED certified?

No building products are LEED certified; only buildings are certified.  Building products can only contribute to earning points in various categories.

How can Bradley products help earn LEED credits?

Many of Bradley's products conserve water, conserve energy, contain recycled materials and produce no 'off-gassing'.

They can help earn credits in the following categories:
Water Efficiency:
Credit 3.1 - Water Use Reduction, 20% reduction
Credit 3.2 - Water Use Reduction, 30% reduction

Materials & Resources:
Credit 4.1 - Recycled Content, specify 10%
Credit 4.2 - Recycled Content, specify 20%
Credit 5.1 - Local/Regional Materials, 10% manufactured locally
Credit 5.2 - Local/Regional Materials, 20% manufactured locally

What are some of Bradley's EarthSmart products?

Bradmar partitions

Bradmar partitions are made with 30% post industrial recycled HDPE plastic.  100% recycled plastic models are also available.  These partitions won't rust or have to be repainted or replaced as often as metal partitions are.  This material is resistant to scratches and dents so requires less maintenance. Graffiti, markers and dirt are easily cleaned with non-toxic, biodegradeable cleaners.

Lenox lockers

Lenox lockers are made with 30% post industrial recycled HDPE plastic. 100% recycled plastic models are also available.  These lockers have a 20-year guarantee, so you can be sure they won't end up in a landfill anytime soon. Solid plastic lockers won't rust so they can be used even in high humidity areas.  No repainting these lockers every 1-5 years as metal lockers often are.

Stainless steel washroom accessories and toilet partitions

 Washroom Accessories - Multi-Purpose Units - Towel Dispensers/Hand Dryers - Waste Receptacles - Napkin Vendors/Disposals - Toilet Tissue Holders/Seat Cover Dispensers - Soap Dispensers - Mirrors/Shelves - Grab Bars - Related Equipment - Security Accessories

Bradley's stainless steel washroom accessories are made from 60% recycled content stainless, while the partitions have 69% recycled content.  These products are long lasting and vandal resistant and won't have to be replaced for years to come.

ndite powered lavatory systems

Green Spec Listed 2005The patented ndite™ powered lavatory system requires no electricity or batteries to power the sensors and activate the water. Normal levels of light in the restroom charge the photovoltaic cells which power the sensors and valves regulating water to the lavs. No batteries have to be recharged or replaced thus saving money and reducing landfill waste.

Washfountains

 Plumbing Fixtures - Washfountains

Bradley's washfountains have been 'green' since 1921 when they were first introduced. Washfountains save on materials for installation, reduce required floor space, and conserve water and energy when compared to a bank of china lavs.

Faucets

 Plumbing Fixtures - Faucets

The aerators on most of Bradley's Aerada faucets are restricted to a flow of 0.5 gallons per minute, thus saving water. Infrared activation on faucets will save water by restricting the flow to a preset time, plus the water will not run unless there is someone using the fixture.

Showers

 Plumbing Fixtures - Showers

Showerheads are restricted to use only 2.5 gallons of water per minute, however, flow restrictors on Bradley's showerheads are set to 2.3 GPM. Several of Bradley showerheads can be provided with a 2.0 GPM or lower flow restrictor to help meet LEED requirements for water conversation.  Showers can be activated with valves that control water usage to a preset time, thus saving water. Shower valves are constructed with advanced ceramic disc technology.  With no wearing parts, these valves will last for many years.

Terreon® solid surface material

Terreon solid surface lasts a lifetime and can easily be repaired and renewed, thus minimizing the need to replace and dispose of it.  Over 96% of Terreon products are completely molded including bowls, overflows, backsplashes and aprons, eliminating fabrication waste and the use of sealants and adhesives. Terreon is non-toxic with virtually no 'off-gassing' of volatile organic compounds (VOC). Terreon is a non-porous material which means that it will not support the growth of mold, mildew or bacteria.  Click here for more information.
